I’m passionate about working for the people of Flagstaff as a community organizer and leader, as the Vice Mayor of the City Council, and hopefully as the Mayor of Flagstaff. As a long-time community leader, I see so much potential for making positive advances for our community.

In my 20-plus years of work in this community, I’ve helped to accomplish many projects to benefit Flagstaff and its residents. I’m an inclusive leader with experience building strong and effective teams with people who are solutions driven. This is the work I will continue as your Mayor. I’ll help our City Council find solutions to some of Flagstaff’s most pressing problems.

My priorities include the creation of affordable housing; mitigating the impacts of climate change on our community; supporting small business growth and job creation; investing in parks; and increased investment in pedestrian, bike, and bus transportation and the Flagstaff Urban Trail System.

In my role as an elected leader I represent a wide range of perspectives, listen to opposing viewpoints, and discourage political grandstanding and drama. As Mayor, I’ll help the entire City Council contribute to our goal of serving the people of Flagstaff. I’ll work to repair and build stronger relationships with our partners at the state, county, and local levels. My number one goal will be to advocate on behalf of Flagstaff.

I’m prepared to be Mayor based on my extensive experience. I worked to help local businesses grow as Flagstaff’s Business Retention and Expansion Manager. I’ve worked on city committees and task forces to develop Flagstaff’s Regional Plan, update the city’s charter, and recommend projects for voter-approved bond funding. Governor Napolitano appointed me as co-chair of her Growing Smarter Oversight Council and during my six years in this role, we created guiding principles for growth in Arizona and made sure that all Arizona municipalities and counties developed plans conforming with Growing Smarter legislation.

I’ve led three local nonprofit organizations: Friends of Flagstaff’s Future, Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy, and the Flagstaff Arts Council (now Creative Flagstaff). I’ve volunteered on many nonprofit boards and in many other capacities. I’m a Flinn-Brown Fellow with the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership and currently direct northern Arizona organizing efforts for the statewide Stop Dark Money campaign. This initiative would require PACs and other organizations spending on political advertising meant to influence an election to disclose their big donors.

I’m known as a thoughtful decision maker who studies the issue and listens to different perspectives before coming to a conclusion. I’ve developed this skill over 20 years of contending with some of Flagstaff’s toughest issues.

I’ve advocated on behalf of our community and in support of policies and efforts to improve our quality of life for many years. I ask for your support continuing to do so as your Mayor!
