Mayors Call on Congress to Defend SNAP
Help spread information about summer food programs
More than 100 members of the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger call on Congress to defend Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The request was made prior to the House passing a Farm Bill that still leaves Americans hungry. As of this writing, the Senate is taking up the Farm Bill and hopefully the voices of millions of Americans who recognize that providing qualifying individuals and families with a modest amount of money (averages $6 per day) in order to purchase food, is a good thing for all of us.
You might recall that H.R.1 (sometimes known as the Big Beautiful Bill) made drastic cuts to SNAP benefits and advocates are hoping to reverse at least some portion of the cuts. For many, SNAP is the lifeline that helps them get adequate nutrition. For children, cuts to SNAP will be increasingly devastating.
Hunger shouldn’t be a partisan issue, however, support for this Farm Bill is falling along party lines. Republicans support it (and supported the SNAP cuts in H.R.1) and Democrats oppose it (as they did H.R.1). Contact your federal elected officials and let them no that you demand that no kid goes hungry.

Across the state, children’s advocates are working to get the word out about summer food programs for kids and teens ages 0 to 18. The Arizona Food Bank Network has a comprehensive list of summer food resources. Access to registration will be available when programs open for enrollment in June.
